Welcome to Karis House’s Lay Counseling Ministry. Our purpose statement is the following:

“Engaging in Gospel-oriented relationships that address the felt and real needs of hurting people”

We realize that people come to counseling for a variety of reasons. Personal problems, spiritual problems, relationship problems – some people find it hard to even label the problems they are having. Please know that we want to hear your story and be a part of the healing process.

We are a church-based lay counseling ministry. All of our lay counselors have gone through several months of counseling training that includes skill-building, case studies/discussion, and observation, with a focus on Biblical, Gospel-centered counseling.

Our lay counselors do not have professional degrees – however, they are equipped to provide care and counsel to hurting people. They will not pretend to have all of the answers to all of your problems – rather, their desire to is walk with you through your pain, to point you to God – the ultimate healer - and to provide spiritual counsel. Karis House does have professional counselors, both inside and out of the church. We are happy to refer you to a professional Christian counselor if that is your preference.

The issues most common to lay counseling include (but are not limited to) the following list:  parenting problems, depression, marital disputes, grief, premarital, drugs/alcohol abuse, self-image, anxiety, anger, guilt, vocational concerns, financial problems and relationships. There is no fee for lay counseling sessions – our counselors are all leader volunteers that attend the Journey.

Once you have completed the intake process, you will be assigned to a lay counselor and offered up to 10 sessions of lay counseling. Once the sessions are complete, you will talk with your lay counselor to evaluate whether you will continue for an additional 10 sessions.
