The Gospel. Food. Body Image.
a ministry of Karis House for women
Rheó is a ministry of Karis House for women who desire to grow in their understanding of food and body image, through gospel-centered counseling, workshops, and support groups led by a professional counselor.
What is the vision behind Rheó?
Rheó began with the knowledge that:
- struggles with food and body image are widespread, especially (but not exclusively) among women
- high percentages of women face an internal battle when it comes to eating, getting dressed in the morning, seeing their reflection in a mirror, and emotional eating (among many other related food and body struggles)
- many women face this struggle alone, in secret, hidden from those who know them best
What if God is not silent on our relationship with food or our bodies? What would it look like to engage truth in community around this important topic? These questions birthed the vision of Rheó.
In Greek, rheó (pronounced ray-O) is translated as “I flow” or “I overflow.” It is out of the overflow of God's love for us that we are able to experience true hope and freedom. God is not silent nor absent on our struggles, but pervasively engaged and clear that the prescription for fullness of life goes far beyond behavior modification, self-improvement, and self-salvation strategies (Deuteronomy 30).
Ultimately, Rheó exists to gather women, seek God and his Word and be held in community as we seek hope and redemption in our relationship to food and body.
